AUDITION & CASTING POLICIES
Your child will audition with many children and will be chosen for his or her talent ONLY. Parts are given to those who fit the role at the discretion of the director/audition committee. No child will ever receive a part for parent participation or because it is his or her “turn”. Every child comes with very different strengths. Casting decisions are always difficult. Unfortunately that is the nature of theatre.
Please read the following carefully:
BACKGROUND CHECK
BCCT has a Background Check Policy. This policy is for the protection of the BCCT and BCCT STAGES children and families. Through a program through the New Jersey State Police, each parent(s) who have any contact with children need to be fingerprinted. BCCT will allow a credit on the production fees allowing to help offset the expense of the background check. This fee reimbursement can be waived by checking the box on the Cast Information Sheet.
This special program specializes in volunteers of children’s non-profit organizations. Each background check is valid for two years. BCCT will keep a list of all families that have participated and when they must re-submit. Since BCCT mandates casted families to volunteer, BCCT will allow a credit on the production fees allowing to help offset the expense of such background check.
Once the background check is completed a letter or email will be sent to BCCT indicating if the candidate “passed” or “failed”, they do not advise us of the offense if any. The State Police has a list of felonies that create a “failure” which can be found on their website. If a candidate comes back as “fail”, they will be contacted by BCCT and be advised as such. It is up to that individual to contact the State Police department to request a copy of their report. BCCT will not know what the offense is or when it may have happened.
